24 “And by these you shall become unclean. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening, 25 and whoever carries any part of their carcass (A)shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening. 26 Every animal that parts the hoof but is not cloven-footed or does not chew the cud is unclean to you. Everyone who touches them shall be unclean. 27 And all that walk on their paws, among the animals that go on all fours, are unclean to you. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening, 28 and he who carries their carcass (B)shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening; they are unclean to you.

29 “And these are unclean to you among the swarming things that swarm on the ground: the mole rat, (C)the mouse, the great lizard of any kind, 30 the gecko, the monitor lizard, the lizard, the sand lizard, and the chameleon. 31 These are unclean to you among all that swarm. Whoever touches them when they are dead shall be unclean until the evening. 32 And anything on which any of them falls when they are dead shall be unclean, whether it is an article of wood or a garment or a skin or a sack, any article that is used for any purpose. (D)It must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the evening; then it shall be clean. 33 And if any of them falls into any earthenware vessel, all that is in it shall be unclean, and you (E)shall break it.

Naboth's Vineyard

21 Now Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard in (A)Jezreel, beside the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. And after this Ahab said to Naboth, (B)“Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is near my house, and I will give you a better vineyard for it; or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its value in money.” But Naboth said to Ahab, “The Lord forbid (C)that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And Ahab (D)went into his house vexed and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned away his face and would eat no food.

But Jezebel his wife came to him and said to him, “Why is your spirit so vexed that you eat no food?” And he said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money, or else, if it please you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’” And Jezebel his wife said to him, “Do you now govern Israel? Arise and eat bread and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

(E)So she wrote letters in Ahab's name and sealed them with his seal, and she sent the letters to (F)the elders and the leaders who lived with Naboth in his city. And she wrote in the letters, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people. 10 And set two (G)worthless men opposite him, and let them bring a charge against him, saying, (H)‘You have cursed[a] God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.” 11 And the men of his city, (I)the elders and the leaders who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them. As it was written in the letters that she had sent to them, 12 (J)they proclaimed a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. 13 And the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him. And the worthless men brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones. 14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned; he is dead.”

15 As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead.” 16 And as soon as Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

11 Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while (A)two covered their bodies. 12 (B)And each went straight forward. (C)Wherever the spirit[a] would go, they went, without turning as they went. 13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was (D)like burning coals of fire, (E)like the appearance of torches moving to and fro among the living creatures. (F)And the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14 And the living creatures (G)darted to and fro, (H)like the appearance of a flash of lightning.

15 (I)Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them.[b] 16 (J)As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like (K)the gleaming of beryl. (L)And the four had the same likeness, their appearance and construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel. 17 (M)When they went, they went (N)in any of their four directions[c] (O)without turning as they went. 18 And their rims were tall and awesome, (P)and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around. 19 (Q)And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; (R)and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. 20 (S)Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went, and the wheels rose along with them, (T)for the spirit of the living creatures[d] was in the wheels. 21 (U)When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; (V)and when those rose from the earth, the wheels rose along with them, (W)for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

22 Over the heads of the living creatures there was (X)the likeness of an expanse, shining like awe-inspiring (Y)crystal, spread out above their heads. 23 And under the expanse their wings were (Z)stretched out straight, one toward another. (AA)And each creature had two wings covering its body. 24 And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings (AB)like the sound of many waters, like (AC)the sound of the (AD)Almighty, a sound of tumult (AE)like the sound of an army. When they stood still, they let down their wings. 25 And there came a voice from above (AF)the expanse over their heads. When they stood still, they let down their wings.

26 And above the expanse over their heads there was (AG)the likeness of a throne, (AH)in appearance (AI)like sapphire;[e] and seated above the likeness of a throne was (AJ)a likeness with a human appearance. 27 And (AK)upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were (AL)gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and (AM)there was brightness around him.[f] 28 Like the appearance of (AN)the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around.

Such was the appearance of the likeness of (AO)the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, (AP)I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

I Cry Out Day and Night Before You

A Song. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah. To the choirmaster: according to (B)Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil[a] of (C)Heman the Ezrahite.

88 O Lord, (D)God of my salvation,
    I (E)cry out day and night before you.
Let my prayer come before you;
    (F)incline your ear to my cry!

For my soul is full of troubles,
    and (G)my life draws near to (H)Sheol.
I am counted among those who (I)go down to the pit;
    I am a man who has no strength,
like one set loose among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom (J)you remember no more,
    for they are (K)cut off from your hand.
You have put me in (L)the depths of the pit,
    in the (M)regions dark and (N)deep.
Your wrath (O)lies heavy upon me,
    and you overwhelm me with (P)all your waves. Selah

You have caused (Q)my companions to shun me;
    you have made me (R)a horror[b] to them.
I am (S)shut in so that I cannot escape;
    (T)my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call upon you, O Lord;
    I (U)spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
    (V)Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
    or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your (W)wonders known in (X)the darkness,
    or your righteousness in the land of (Y)forgetfulness?

13 But I, O Lord, cry (Z)to you;
    (AA)in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 O Lord, why (AB)do you cast my soul away?
    Why (AC)do you hide your face from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up,
    I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.[c]
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your (AD)dreadful assaults destroy me.
17 They (AE)surround me like a flood (AF)all day long;
    they (AG)close in on me together.
18 You have caused (AH)my beloved and my friend to shun me;
    my companions have become darkness.[d]

Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Demon

31 (A)And he (B)went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And (C)he was teaching them (D)on the Sabbath, 32 and (E)they were astonished at his teaching, (F)for his word possessed authority. 33 And (G)in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 “Ha![a] (H)What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? (I)I know who you are—(J)the Holy One of God.” 35 But Jesus (K)rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. 36 And (L)they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? (M)For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” 37 And (N)reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

One Body with Many Members

12 For just as (A)the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, (B)so it is with Christ. 13 For (C)in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—(D)Jews or Greeks, slaves[a] or free—and (E)all were made to drink of one Spirit.

14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, (F)God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, (G)as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts,[b] yet one body.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”
